Fire Rumsfeld Wednesday, May 12, 2004 Our government has been vigorous in prosecuting CEOs of companies when violations of the law was accomplished by underlings. The belief has always been that the buck stops at the boss's desk. The boss is responsible for implementing a system of command and control. When the system fails and something bad happens, it is a direct result of the command and control system failing and the boss must take responsibility. We now have that situation in Iraq, where there is a serious failure of command and control in the Iraqi jails run by our military and their contractors. The spin doctors are hard at work trying to blame the lowest level of military and contractors. The problem is not at the bottom of the chain of command; it is at the top. There is a serious failure of the system of command and control. The head of the department has the responsibility to implement and monitor the system. Mr. Rumsfeld should be fired immediately. If President Bush won't fire him, maybe we should fire President Bush. James H. Tansey
