Thursday, 10 April, 2003:

Notes from tonight's meeting in the Lotus Cup (directions).

Mission Statement:
Susan Peeples asked people to read her Mission Statement, and to send in ideas. Ann Smith and Kathryn Williams also came up with a very short, succinct one.

Showdown in TX:
Mike Flores has got prices: One bus was $100 down, but he lost track of that one. Other bus was $1100 up front, 57 person capacity= $19.xx per person. But he will get more detailed prices. Looks expensive.

Earth Day:
Saturday, April 12, 10am 4pm. We have a table and a chair. Will be located next to the Lotus Cup and Yin-Yang Fandango tables, next to the river.

Howard Dean fundraiser April 26:
Heated debate regarding whether we should even post Dean fundraiser event information on website. We finally decided it was okay to place info on site, but not to officially endorse Mr. Dean. We will attempt to attract other candidates who agree with our position/mission statement, so that we will not appear to be endorsing any particular political candidate.

Texas Democratic Women, local chapter:
Two members, Linda Allen and Peg McPhail (plus our very own Delores Dees) attended our meeting, and invited us to their meetings, which are held on the last Tuesday of each month (April 29th this month) at 6PM, at the Democratic Headquarters at Six Points, on Alameda. Many women in our group are going to join or are considering joining.

Armageddon File:
Everyone needs to read this file! Motion by Delores Dees to make hard copies to mail to every US Senator, Representative, plus President, Vice President, Secretary Powell. Unanimous vote. Susan volunteered to type up a cover letter. This is about 565 mail-outs— we will need help!

Support for Troops:
If we want to do something to support the troops, the military won’t allow it. There are other things we can do: donate money in the name of STAP. Will post to website (to Act! page, specifically) a few addresses to send Care Packages.

Next STAP meeting:
Yes, next Thursday, many of us are surrounded by “war mongers”, and really need the contact with sane human beings...

Passed the hat, brought in $61.
