Notes from Thursday, 27 March, 2003 STAP meeting:

Attendance at regular weekly meetings is dwindling. We talked about how to get people to come together.

One idea is to invite people to the Peace Feast, next Friday, April 4th, 6:30pm, @ the Lotus Cup / Center on Water Courtyard. Potluck dinner. Be sure to talk to all the "old" members who haven't been coming 'round. This will be very informal, and a fun and delicious way to re-connect with like-minded folks!

Martha Moore & Ann Bright spoke about civil disobedience:

School of the Americas, originally located in Panama. In 1983, had moved to Ft. Bening GA. US Army still teaches terrorism & torture tactics to Cent. Americans. Has had 60,000 students.

The base at the time was “open”; a huge group of protesters gathered in front of the base. 2500 of them walked onto the base, got arrested. Handcuffed, mugshots, fingerprints: took all day to process. Arrestees did get fed.

Base commander General Ernst told them, “If you come onto this base again, you will get 2 yrs in jail, plus thousands of dollars in fines.”

The good results: press & media attention. More people found out about it.

Particularly interesting: an 83-yr-old nun spent 2 years in jail.

We created an Action Committee to devise actions for our group to take. Members of the Action Committee are Delores Dees (chair), Kim Dees, Arthur Clarke, John Kelley (ex-officio), Ann Fitz, and J.B. Cudd. If you have any ideas for actions our group should take, talk to one of these people.

Upcoming Events (you can see a "live" version of this list on the STPeace Yahoo Group Calendar: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/STPeace/cal):

Friday, 4 April:
Peace Feast @ the Lotus Cup / Center on Water courtyard
In our ever-challenging effort to promote peace within a warring political environment, we occasionally need time to informally gather, socialize, network, and-- yes-- eat.
* get the word out, re-invite "old" members (is BIG on every page of website)
* Potluck dinner, so bring your favorite "peace food".
* Communion
* the safe environs of the Center on Water (Lotus Cup) courtyard.

Saturday, 3 May:
