Previous News Thursday, 6 March, 2003: STAP is starting to get organized! Tonight's meeing was very fruitful in getting people DOING things. Rothy Moseley is organizing a committee to gather contact info for local churches. Judy Loverde is getting together with members who would like to go out to these churches and other local groups and tell them what we are about. Amanda Moser, along with David Owen and Louis Katz are working on getting the word out to the students at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. There were a few more committees as well, including Buttons & Paraphernalia, and Social Events. We have determined that it is a bit too late to pull together another "Big Rally" at the Cole Park Amphitheater on Saturday, 15 March. Instead, we will be splitting our ranks in two, and each of us will be free to choose on our own. Some of us will be picketing in front of the Federal Courthouse on Shoreline Drive, while others will be driving up to Austin (1pm rally at the State Capitol, followed by a march @ 2pm) to network with peace leaders in those cities and to add our numbers to theirs. March 15th is an important day for the peace movement worldwide, as there will be rallies and marches all over the globe. So, even though STAP will not be hosting a huge event, it is still important that we all make a concerted effort to keep the pressure on the hawks and not let them forget that we are still against this war on Iraq! We are going to be expanding the web site in the near future. We will be sending out fewer emails, in favor of posting notices here in the Home: News section, expanding the Mission section to include official STAP Literature (including the newly-revised Mission Statement, drawn up by John Kelley), and possibly adding a Calendar of Events. And I would personally like some feedback on the new STAP logo; do you like the "Lone Star on Texas-flag-colored Peace Sign"? Do you hate it? Does it send a positive, accurate message about the South Texas Alliance for Peace, or is it completely off-base? Any feedback is most welcome! Next meeting: 7:00pm @ Creative Spirit, 505 S. Water St., inside the Center on Water, downtown CC (across courtyard from the Lotus Cup). Directions here. for older news, see our News Archive |
